The failure of Comptroller-General of Customs, Col Ahmid Ali (Rtd) to adorn the uniform of the Nigeria Customs Service moments ago prompted the members of the NIgerian Senate to walk him out after his appearance in the National Assembly.
Recall that drama and series of letters have trailed the fracas between the Customs boss and Senators after the latter requested the his appearance in the official uniform of the para-military outfit.
Ali had on Tuesday written a letter to the Senate seeking a fresh date for his summon as he said he was seeking fpor legal advice concerning the action requested by the Senate.
Drama started on the floor of the Senate when Deputy Senate President, Senator Ekweremadu questioned Ali for not wearing the uniform of the Customs as the CG was supposed to.
Ali reportedly responded that there is no place in the Law that mandated him to wear the uniform while performing his duty as the Customs CG and also stated that there was no where in the letter sent by the Senate that he should wear his uniform.
The Senate however concluded that it was inappropriate for Ali as the CG to address them in his traditional attire hence he should leave.
The motion to send off the CG was moved by Senator Gorge Sekibo and it was seconded by Senator Barnabas Gemade.
Ali was however mandated to return to the Senate next week so he can answer to questions ready for him and he is expected to appear in his uniform.
