The Nigerian Bar Association, Ikorodu Branch, has announced its upcoming Law Week. The programme will feature the launch of a handbook designed to strengthen human rights advocacy and operations across its branches nationwide.
The book, authored by the branch Vice Chairman, Olajide Abiodun, is titled “A Simple Guide for Members and Persons Responsible for the Human Rights Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association”. It will be launched during the Human Rights session of the Law Week.
Organisers describe the publication as a practical, step by step manual. It aims to guide members of Human Rights Committees in carrying out their duties with clarity and consistency.
The guide covers committee structure, case handling procedures, subcommittee operations, stakeholder engagement, and real life intervention strategies in human rights matters.
The Human Rights Committee of the NBA Ikorodu Branch, which will host the unveiling, describes the handbook as a working tool. It aims to improve service delivery and strengthen the impact of human rights advocacy within the legal profession.
The branch calls on members of Human Rights Committees across all NBA branches, as well as stakeholders in the justice sector, to engage with the handbook and apply its guidance within their jurisdictions.
Organisers also seek support from organisations, development partners, and individuals. They stress the need for collaboration to promote access to justice and protect fundamental rights.
The NBA Ikorodu Law Week will bring together legal practitioners, human rights advocates, and other stakeholders. Discussions will focus on pressing legal and societal issues, with emphasis on advancing human rights protection in Nigeria.
