The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the identity of the individual seen firing an AK47 rifle in a viral video within the bustling Ladipo Market as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, who is currently serving in a Lagos squadron of the Mobile Police (MOPOL).

Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has responded swiftly to the incident, ordering the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against Inspector Kwanchi.

The officer’s actions, which were captured on video and widely circulated on social media, have been labeled as “unprofessional, unethical, and dangerous.”

The video, which garnered widespread attention and outrage, shows Inspector Kwanchi discharging an automatic weapon in a crowded market, a flagrant violation of established law enforcement protocols and public safety.

Such behavior has been met with severe condemnation from both the public and fellow law enforcement personnel.

In an official statement, CP Idowu Owohunwa emphasized the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct among its officers and men.

He stated,

“The Lagos State Police Command will not tolerate any form of deviant behavior from its officers and men. We are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of all citizens.”

CP Owohunwa assured members of the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and those found culpable, including Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, will be dealt with in accordance with the established rules and regulations governing the conduct of police officers.
