Age, by definition, is the period of human life, measured by years from birth, usually marked by a certain stage or degree of mental or physical development and involving legal responsibility and capacity.
A decade simply refers to 10 years. Medical experts define age by decade as a term designating someone’s age by decade. The prefix in such terms is always from the Latin. For example, the Latin septuageni = seventy.
There are different words for people in each decade of age as stated below:
– A person between 10 and 19 years old is called a Denarian.
– A person between 20 and 29 years old is a Vicenarian.
– A person between 30 and 39 is a Tricenarian.
– A person between 40 and 49 is a Quadragenarian.
– A person between 50 and 59 is a Quinquagenarian.
– A person between 60 and 69 is a Sexagenarian.
– A person between 70 and 79 is a Septuagenarian.
– A person between 80 and 89 is an Octogenarian.
– A person between 90 and 99 is a Nonagenarian.
– A person between 100 and 109 is a Centenarian.
– Anyone that is 110 and above is a Supercentenarian. The term was coined in 1991.
However, the terms denarian, vicenarian, tricenarian, and quadragenarian are not commonly used.
