Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has rewarded the two best graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) with N20 million each.

The governor announced the cash gifts on Wednesday during the university’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies at its main campus in Ojo, Lagos.

The beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale, the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, who emerged as the best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session.

Olawale graduated with a 4.96 CGPA and First Class Honours in Project Management Technology, while Oluolamide earned a 4.97 CGPA and First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering.

Announcing the reward at the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu said each of the graduates would receive N20 million.

“Ayilara Lawal Olawale and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, each one of you will earn 20 million naira each,” the governor said.

Sanwo-Olu’s New Media aide, Jubril Gawat, later confirmed the announcement in a post on X, describing the money as a cash gift from the governor.

The reward adds to the recognition already received by Oluolamide, who recently won N10 million from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme after emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The two students were announced as the university’s best graduating students by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello ahead of the combined convocation.

More than 20,000 students are graduating from LASU across the two academic sessions, with 494 of them earning First Class honours.

Reacting to his achievement, Olawale attributed his success to God.

“Grateful beyond words to graduate as the Best Graduating Student of Lagos State University, Ojo, for the 2024/2025 Session. Every victory was by Allah’s grace,” he wrote on X.

Oluolamide also celebrated his academic feat, writing: “4.97 / 5.00 CGPA. First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering at Lagos State University.”

He added that the achievement was made possible by “God’s grace, wisdom, and strength every step of the way.”
