Reps Member, Babajimi Benson Nominated For 2018 Lagos State Man of Year Award

The member House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Babajimi Benson, has been nominated for the 2018 Lagos State Man of the Year Award to be organized by the Centre for Policy Development and Political Studies (CEPODEPS). 

Babajimi was nominated for being one of the most patriotic Lagosians with proven record of integrity “who truly has many and more greater things to offer the State of Centre of Excellence.”

In a letter obtained by BlackBox Nigeria dated August 15, 2018 and signed by the Chief Organizer of the award, Dr. Aderemi Ifaolepin Aderemi, Babajimi Benson was nominated alongside other nine nominees selected by a 9-Man Selection Committee that have just completed its assignment.

The Lagos State Man of the Year Award (LASMAYA) is an accolade given to individuals who are symbols of achievement in Lagos State’s public and private sectors, particularly those who have attained a standard of merit in the eyes of their peers having performed exceptionally in their industries and worked within Lagos State for a minimum of 10 years.

The eventual winner of 8th edition of the  Lagos State Man Of The Year  Award conceptualised to give tribute to excellence and identify genuine role models in Lagos State, will emerge through a credible participatory voting process of sending short message service (SMS) code to a designated number.

Voting for the 2018 edition will last for 7 days starting Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th of September, 2018. 

Brief Profile of Babajimi Benson

BABAJIMI BENSON represents Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives National Assembly, Nigeria.

Early in his career, Babajimi worked as a Legal Officer in the law offices of Babatunde Benson (SAN).  Later, he also worked as an intern lawyer in the United Nations (General Legal Division) HQ, New York between 2000 and 2001.  

Babajimi moved into the financial services industry where he evolved into an astute banker holding managerial positions in the legal departments of Lead Bank PLC and Ecobank PLC respectively.  

Subsequently, Babajimi served as the Company Secretary and Legal Adviser at the Lagos State Development & Property Corporation (LSDPC) while also representing the interest of the LASG on the board of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos, Nigeria as a Non-Executive Director.  Babajimi held these roles within the ten years spanning 2004 to 2014 before being elected elected to represent the good people of Ikorodu at the National Assembly in 2015.

At the Nation Assembly, his experience as a lawyer working in: banking, real estate development, investments, as well as his roles as a top executive has come to bear on his roles as: Chairman Sub-Committee on Habitat, Deputy Chairman, Committee on Delegated Legislation, member of Committees on Works, Justice, Housing, Environment, Privatization & Commercialization

Babajimi brought the flair and efficiency of a private sector operator ensuring value addition in terms of: legal and regulatory compliance, corporate governance, strategic oversight and insights into the various tasks he is entrusted with at the National Assembly.

In 2015, Babajimi was appointed as Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee to investigate the activities of Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOS) and also Chaired the Ad-Hoc Committee mandated to formulate a durable and sustainable work plan which will serve as a working document for Committee on Housing.

Babajimi Benson represents Lagos State in the Special Ad-Hoc Committee on the Review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

Since joining the green chamber, Babajimi has focused his contributions by way of bills, motions and petitions on issues bordering on economic development, social justice, youth empowerment, cultural integration, financial transparency, security and unemployment.
