Reps declare Ondo seat vacant

The seat of the Akure-South/Akure-North Federal Constituency in Ondo State at the House of Representatives has been declared vacant.

Speaking at the plenary on Tuesday, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said the vacancy was caused by the death of Adedayo Omolafe, on August 16, 2021, which was announced at the plenary on September 14, 2021.

Omolafe popularly called ”Expensive” died of an undisclosed ailment at the Federal Medical Centre FMC, Owo, Ondo State.

While declaring the seat vacant, Gbajabiamila also said the notification was in accordance to the fulfillment of Section 68 (2) of the 1999 Constitution and for the records sake.

Meanwhile, the House of representatives is required to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after which it would schedule the conduct of a by-election to fill the vacant seat of the deceased house member.
