Former Head of State, General AbdulSalami Abubakar on Thursday appeared at the Presidential Villa, Abuja for a short meeting with President Muhammad Buhari. Abubakar handed over power to the civilian regime of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 after about 16 years of military rule.
The Niger State born General while speaking with journalists, said he only came to discuss some national and international issues with the President. Recall that Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka when he visited Buhari last week, had made similar claims of international and national issues.
However, it was later gathered that Abubakar’s meeting with the President might not be unconnected with reported moves by the Presidency to commence open probe of former President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration,
There were speculations that the ex-President had consulted a number of prominent Nigerians to remind President Buhari of plea by some leaders of thoughts in the country before his election not to investigate his predecessor(s).
