Chaos ensued as gunmen carried out a brazen attack on the motorcade of Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, the esteemed Commissioner for Trade and Investment in Abia State.
The shocking incident took place during the commissioner’s routine visit to various markets within the Aba metropolis.
Confirming the distressing event, the Abia State Police Command issued a statement, shedding light on the grave situation.
The commissioner’s motorcade was en route to the popular Ekeoha Shopping Plaza in Aba when the assailants launched their violent assault.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing rapid gunfire erupting near the bustling shopping plaza, sending civilians and law enforcement officials alike into a panic. The heavily armed attackers targeted the commissioner’s convoy with deadly precision.
Tragically, in the wake of the attack, two police officers lost their lives, putting their lives on the line to protect the commissioner and the public.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Maureen Chioma condemned the cowardly act, stating that the command “remains steadfast in the resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
“We urge the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies.
“Any information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, could prove pivotal in identifying and apprehending the culprits responsible for this heinous act.
“In conclusion, we emphasize our unwavering commitment to pursuing justice and upholding the triumph of good over evil”, the statement added.
