Nigerian dancer and entertainer Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, has spoken about his recent ordeal in the United Kingdom during a video call with social commentator VeryDarkMan.
The conversation, which took place on Sunday, came shortly after Poco Lee was reportedly released on bail in connection with an ongoing criminal case in the UK.
VeryDarkMan said he decided to call Poco Lee because of the reaction that followed reports of his release.
“The reason why I say make I do this video call na because people are angry that you are out,” VeryDarkMan told him.
Poco Lee, who appeared relaxed during the conversation, said his major concern throughout the situation was the people around him and the possible effect of the case on them.
He said he contacted Rahman Jago because of concerns about the impact of the situation on his business and social media activities.
“I tell Jago because Jago couldn’t do anything, like business-wise or social media-wise,” Poco Lee said.
According to him, he was also conscious of involving other people because of the possibility that his situation could create problems for those associated with him.
“So, I didn’t do anything, but my mind is as clear as anything,” he said.
Poco Lee also mentioned Burna Boy, Rahman Jago and other associates while speaking about those who stood by him during the period.
“For Burna to stand for me, Jago and my other guys where they here,” he said.
VeryDarkMan, who said he had only met Poco Lee once before the conversation, at a Burna Boy event, also advised the entertainer to be cautious about people who might be targeting him.
He suggested that Poco Lee’s ability to move between dancing, hyping and singing could have attracted criticism.
“You start with, okay, you first dey dance. You no stop for the dance. You go dey do hype man. You no stop hype man. You go dey sing. Only you wan dey do everything,” VeryDarkMan said.
Poco Lee responded that he was simply trying to find his direction.
“I don’t have a direction to say, ‘Okay, how can I do this thing?’ I’m just being me, honestly,” he said.
The conversation also touched on Poco Lee’s public image, with VeryDarkMan describing him as a “jolly good fellow” and saying that many people cared about him.
The case behind the controversy
Poco Lee’s comments come amid an ongoing criminal case in the United Kingdom.
The entertainer faces five charges at Snaresbrook Crown Court, including attempted rape, two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
He has maintained his innocence.
The case has generated significant attention in Nigeria, particularly following reports about his detention, subsequent release on bail and the involvement of people within his circle.
His reported release does not mean the case has been dismissed. The criminal proceedings remain ongoing, with Poco Lee scheduled to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15 for a Plea and Trial Preparation Hearing.
The video call with VeryDarkMan provides one of Poco Lee’s clearest public comments since the controversy emerged, with the entertainer addressing his state of mind, his concerns for those around him and the support he received during the period.
