A player of the Sunshine stars Fc, has been shot as other members of the club were injured during an attack by some gunmen.
This incident happened on early hours of Thursday, according to the club’s, Media Officer, Michael Akintunde in a press statement.
Akintunde explained that the club was attacked along Ore-Benin Expressway while going to “honor an Elite League tie, against Insurance of Benin, scheduled for this weekend.”
In the statement, Akintunde revealed that a player was shot during the attack, while others, including the team manager, players and other club officials were “seriously injured.”
However, he said, with the intervention of the Federal Road Safety corp, FRSC, they have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Recall that similar incident happened last weekend, when FC One Rocket of Abat, Akwa Ibom, were returning after playing in Ihiala, Anambra.
They were returning after an NNL match against Ikorodu City in Lagos.
Reacting to this, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, decried the spate of robbery attacks on players and officials of football clubs travelling by road, lamenting how the were injured and lost valuables things.
The NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi on Friday expressed sympathy to the two teams on the unfortunate attacks.
The NFF therefore appealed to security agents to devise further means of protecting road users in the land.
