Oteju Daughters Record Major Academic Feats in U.S. Universities

The family of Adebayo and Olubukola Oteju is celebrating a season of academic excellence as their daughters, Oluwatofunmi and Oluwatofarati Oteju, achieved remarkable milestones in their respective fields at leading American universities.

Oluwatofunmi Oteju recently completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmacology at Drexel University, Philadelphia, where she distinguished herself through groundbreaking biomedical research and multiple academic honours.

Her research focused on the impact of cocaine exposure and HIV infection on dopamine signaling and neuroimmune dysfunction, a study considered significant in advancing knowledge in neuroscience and human health.

During her doctoral programme, Oluwatofunmi received several recognitions, including the prestigious National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) F31 Research Fellowship for her project titled, “Uncovering Mechanisms Contributing to Enhanced NeuroHIV with Cocaine Use.”

She also received the Daniel T. O’Connor Young Investigator Travel Award from the Catecholamine Society at the 2025 ASPET Meeting, secured third place in the Outstanding Senior Graduate Student Poster Presentation at Drexel College of Medicine Discovery Day 2025, and earned an honorable mention at the institution’s 2024 Discovery Day.

In addition, she was selected to deliver oral presentations at major neuroscience and pharmacology conferences, reflecting her growing reputation within the biomedical research community.

Meanwhile, her sister, Oluwatofarati Oteju, graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree with First Class honours.

Her achievement highlights exceptional academic performance in the demanding field of nursing, combining clinical expertise, academic discipline, and patient-centered care.

Family members and associates described the sisters’ accomplishments as a reflection of discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence.

The achievements of the Oteju sisters have also been hailed as a testament to the values and support provided by their parents, Adebayo and Olubukola Oteju, whose dedication to education and purpose continues to inspire admiration.

Expressing gratitude, the family gave thanks to God for what they described as His faithfulness, strength, and grace throughout the academic journeys of their daughters.
