Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that her movie, Mother’s Love, grossed ₦103.09 million at the cinemas, but the amount eventually accruing to the producers after deductions was ₦22.28 million.
Omotola disclosed this while giving an account of the proceeds from the movie, noting that the entire amount received by the producers was donated to Slum to School Africa, a non-governmental organisation focused on supporting children and young people in underserved communities.
According to the actress, Mother’s Love generated ₦103,094,663 during its theatrical run.
However, she explained that deductions for exhibitors, distributors, printing, advertising, value-added tax, entertainment tax, withholding tax and other cinema-related expenses significantly reduced the amount available to the producers.
“At the end of our run, we had made ₦103,094,663,” Omotola said.
“After deduction from exhibitors, distributors, print, advertising, value added tax, entertainment tax and withholding tax, all deductions and everything else from cinemas, the money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was ₦22,276,558.”
Omotola further disclosed that the producers fulfilled their earlier commitment to donate all the proceeds accruing to them from the project.
“So, 100 per cent of that money, as promised by Red Hot Concepts, was donated to the NGO, Slum to School Africa,” she said.
The disclosure highlights the significant difference between a film’s headline box-office gross and the amount ultimately received by its producers after the various costs and statutory deductions associated with cinema distribution.
Omotola’s announcement also underscores the philanthropic objective behind Mother’s Love, with the producers directing their entire net proceeds towards supporting the work of Slum to School Africa.
