Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.
The 66-year-old actor was buried on Monday, August 24, 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites, following his death a day earlier.
The funeral attracted several prominent figures from the Yoruba film industry, including veteran actors Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko and Toyosi Adesanya, who arrived in Ilaro to pay their final respects to the late actor.
Mourners gathered for the funeral prayers at the Ilaro Central Mosque before Ogogo’s remains were taken for burial.
The ceremony was marked by grief, with several of his colleagues struggling to contain their emotions. Yinka Quadri, one of Ogogo’s longtime friends and colleagues, was reportedly overcome with emotion during the burial.
Ogogo died at about 3pm on Sunday, August 23, at the age of 66. His death was announced by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who said the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro for his final rites.
His death came after reports that he had been battling stage-four cancer. His daughters had earlier appealed for assistance for his treatment as his condition worsened.
Ogogo was one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning several decades as an actor, producer, director and screenwriter.
His passing has triggered widespread tributes from colleagues, fans and members of the Nigerian entertainment industry, who have described him as an influential figure in the development of Yoruba film and theatre.
With his burial in Ilaro, the veteran actor has now taken his final bow, leaving behind a legacy that spanned generations of Nigerian cinema.
