Newly promoted Premier League side, Nottingham Forest F.C have concluded plans to recruit Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi as their first major signing.

Awoniyi is expected to sign for around £17 million, shattering the club’s transfer record in the process.

The striker will be parting ways with German side, Union Berlin, where he scored 20 goals in the 2021/22 season, guiding the club to the Europa League.

The 24-year-old was on Liverpool’s books after joining from Imperial Soccer Academy in 2015, but he was unable to obtain a work permit in order to play at Anfield. However, Jurgen Klopp is said to be a tremendous fan who feels the Nigerian forward can make an impact in the Premier League.

Awoniyi has played for a number of clubs across Europe, but it is at Union Berlin that he has begun to shine. When leading the line, the striker exudes sheer strength, and he appears to be a viable replacement for Keinan Davis.

Forest have rushed to sign Awoniyi after receiving a £15 million offer from Aston Villa to finalise Davis’ permanent transfer. After a tremendous campaign last season, the talisman will arrive to Trentside full of confidence.

The forward won the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup with the Golden Eaglets. He was also part of the Flying Eagles squad that clinched the 2015 African Under-20 Championship. In four appearances for the Super Eagles, he has scored one goal so far, in his senior career.
