Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi has confirmed that the Federal Government was ready with the closure of the Nnamdi Azikwe international Airport, Abuja for “total rebuilding” of the facility.
Amaechi made this disclosure moments ago at the second Presidential business forum in Abuja.
Amaechi insisted that the airport which was built 34 years ago had outlived it’s 20 years lifespan and there exist reasons to carry out repairs before more aircraft are been damaged.
While responding to the question asked by Frank Udenba-Jacobs, president of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), who voiced as opposition against the closure, the Transport Minister referenced to a damaged Luftansa aircraft which have been grounded for three days after it landed in Abuja.
He said if the airport was not fixed in time, more aircraft may be damaged.
