The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission has revealed that card readers will not be used in the upcoming local government elections just as it has granted an extension of date for the political parties to carry out their primaries.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Oladapo Olatunde, the card readers will be sidelined in the July elections but will be used in next elections as electoral reforms will have address proper changes.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mrs Ayotunde Phillips revealed that the current electoral law guiding the elections do not provide for the use of the card readers but it will be treated and used properly after a reform.
She also disclosed that some political party leaders have requested for an extension of the deadline to submit their candidates and it has granted them and given them till May 25th.
The political parties were also informed that they are expected to pay N100,000 for each Chairmanship aspirants, N75,000 for each Vice-Chairmanship aspirant and N50,000 for each Councilorship aspirant. The parties were directed to make the payments into any commercial banks in favour of Lagos State Government.
