NiMET Alerts Northern Region On Thick Dust Haze

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has alerted the general public on the weather conditions in some Northern cities for the next three days.

The Agency reported via its official Twitter handle that these cities will experience dust haze which can affect horizontal visibility adversely.

The weather reports monitored at the Agency stations in Niger and Chad indicate that strong winds at 800m are expected to transport the dust to the country, particularly the North and North-Central regions.

The release further disclosed that satellite images obtained indicate that Katsina, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, and Jigawa will experience thick dust haze, while other Northern states are expected to report modern dust haze.

NiMET expects this weather condition is expected to persist for the next 3-days with Day-Time temperatures falling as a result of this plum of dust, and Night-Time cold will be on the high side.

“Members of the public are advised to take necessary precautions due to dust particles presently in suspension over the atmosphere. Also, individuals with respiratory ailments are advised to protect themselves as the current weather condition is not good for their health.

“Airlines operators are advised to avail themselves of weather reports from NiMET for effective planning on their operations”, the tweet reads.
