The Falconets of Nigeria have qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
The Nigerian team beat South Korea 1-0 on Sunday to win their second consecutive match at the tournament, following their first victory against European champions France.
In the fiercely contested clash, the Falconets put up a resilient performance against the South Korean side whose defense appeared unbreakable.
Esther Onyenezide’s goal via a lovely long range shot was all the Falconets needed to claim the needed win.
In the 83rd minute, Onyenezide curled a shot past South Korea’s Yoonji Do and scored the only goal of the match.
Thanks to the midfielder, the Falconets were able to secure three points and top group C with six points from two games.
