The Nigerian female basketball team, D’Tigress, has made history at the Paris Olympics 2024 by securing a spot in the quarter-finals with a 79-70 victory over Canada.
This makes them the first African team, male or female, to reach this stage in Olympic basketball history.
The three-time Women’s Afrobasket Champions faced a tough challenge from Canada, ranked 5th globally.
Despite a close first quarter ending 18-18, Canada gained took the lead in the second quarter, leading 23-19 at halftime.
However, led by Ezunne Kalu, who played an important role in rallying the team during the third quarter to a 23-5 lead, D’Tigress maintained their composure in the face of a late Canadian resurgence in the fourth quarter, ultimately securing the victory with a nine-point margin.
