Olajide Abiodun Akinola, Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu Branch, has formally declared his intention to contest for the office of Chairman, setting the stage for a keenly watched leadership race within the branch.
Akinola, who also chairs the branch’s Human Rights Committee, announced his bid after obtaining his nomination form, describing his decision as one rooted in “sustained service, reflection, and a deep conviction” to advance the branch’s progress.
Highlighting his record in office, he noted that under his leadership, the Human Rights Committee has expanded the scope of rights advocacy within the branch. According to him, initiatives such as structured police visitations, strengthened court monitoring, and increased community-based advocacy have elevated the branch’s public interest impact.
He added that strategic engagements with law enforcement agencies, judicial officers, and community leaders have positioned the Ikorodu branch as a leading voice in rights advocacy, alongside its involvement in public interest litigation addressing systemic issues.
While acknowledging the achievements of past leaders, Akinola stressed the need to consolidate existing gains and pursue deliberate institutional growth. He outlined priorities including enhanced professional development, improved member welfare, and a stronger voice for the branch within the NBA’s national structure.
Akinola said a detailed vision and mission framework for the branch would be unveiled in the coming days, expressing confidence in the collective ability of members to sustain and elevate the branch’s standing.
“The future of our branch will not be shaped by chance, but by the leadership we collectively choose,” he said.
