Mr President, When You Were Away…

Mr President, When You Were Away…

Mr. President you are welcome back home. It is exactly 51 days that you have been away from this land; the land where you promised Change.

After 51 days in the Queen’s Land, do we have the confidence that you are now fit to move mountains? And we do hope that in another one month, there would be no reason for you to visit your doctors again. We also hope that when you were away, you saw the medical facilities with which doctors handled your treatment. Certainly, we believe for some moments, you wondered why those modern facilities are unavailable in your country in spite of the billions of dollars being recovered from water tanks, abandoned houses and safes in some of the remotest parts of your country.

You must have realised this is why it is compelling for you, your Ministers, GovernorsC captains of industries, even local government Chairmen and others close to the corridors of power to seek medical helps abroad at the signs of the slightest headache.

Mr. President, we hope you have realised that your promise to make one dollar equivalent to one Naira would remain a pipe dream as long as you and others who have stolen Nigerians blind continue to pay for medical attentions in foreign hospitals. Your desire to restore Nigeria’s pride, we also hope you realise, would continue to be a mirage as long as your people cannot feed themselves.

Now that you are back Mr. President, let us hand over our own note of all that transpired when you were away lest those you put in the saddle fail to give you a true picture of what happened.

Sir, when you were away, the nation was torn into camps of those who jubilated at your rumored death and those who asked what good would your death do for Nigeria. At some point, many Nigerians asked if we were not back to the Yar’Adua experience and that the true picture of your health status was not being given to them.

Oh! Were you told by your aides that a fake video even went viral as a “Breaking News” of your death? We knew that many enemies were at work.

Mr. President, you need to speak up! Who and who visited you in London? Nigerians have all become doubting Thomases and nothing seems to be believable to them any longer. But if we may ask you; were you visited by the Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Senator Daisy Danjuma? Were you visited by All Progressives Congress chieftains Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and your party’s former Interim National Chairman, Bisi Akande? You may also need to tell Nigerians which attires you put on when each of these sets of Nigerians ‘visited’ if they indeed, visited you. The truth is Nigerians have ‘quarreled’ over everything; including of course, the color of your flowing gown (jalamiya).

They have even asked if Mr. President has only one jalamiya and only one cap. Even when they saw your photo with the First Lady, Aisha, they queried why was she not sitting close to you on the same chair. Was she afraid of something contagious? Or was the photo a fine product of a creative ‘photoshop’ artist? And that she, in reality, was not with you.

Mr. President when you were away, many of the problems you left with us have not vanished. Recession has been biting harder. Kidnapping has continued. Remnants of the Boko Haram attacks have not stopped to manifest. There have been fears that Nigerians may pay more for fuel. Nigerians are already aware to their consternation, that they may pay more on fuel to fund roads construction. But they have lamented whether these are not too heavy a burden for them to bare.

Mr. President, were you told that one of the musicians in the country moved to bring people out to protest against your government? That Innocent Idibia said with “One Voice” Nigerians could force your government out or force your government to bring down the hardship. But even when TuFace caved in to pressure to dump his protests match, the Falcons could no longer hear the Falconer. His fans, and millions of those who had heard go-ahead whistle, refused to heed the call to backdown.

We don’t know, Mr. President, if you were shown photos of the protests in Ibadan, Abuja, PortHarcourt, Lagos, Osogbo, and many more. Yes! We know some of your sympathisers made efforts to show you support, their voices were drowned by the “deafening” wailing of the “One Voice” protesters.

Even when words went round that the loquacious Mr. Donald Trump was going to speak with you on phone, Nigerians still doubted if this was going to be real. And when your aides eventually served us the details of your conversations with Trump, little did Nigerians believe this was for real.

Mr. President, have you been told that some Governors, in connivance with some loyalists of yours, allegedly held your Vice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, hostage at one corner of the Presidential Villa and sought to force him to resign? That is just one of the many intrigues that hallmarked your period of absence at the Aso Rock.

Traces of the intrigues must be around the corners of the Villa, even as you have arrived. The Vice President, who you constitutionally asked to act was all over the places. He was in Delta and Rivers. He visited Edo and Borno. He was in Lagos and Ogun. Some have said these visits worked wonders. In case you have not been told, The Economists, that foreign magazine with matters of business and finance across the globe said the economy looked healthier under the Acting President, Osinbajo. We know that sounded a bit uncomfortable with some people. But the days ahead after your arrival would mean a lot.

Mr. President, while welcoming you back home, we wish you total recovery as the economy is waiting to be healed by you.
