Senegalese forward, Sadio Mane has been named CAF Men’s Player of the Year for the second time.
The 30-year-old, who recently joined Bayern Munich, was presented with the prestigious honour at the 2022 CAF Awards held on Thursday.
Mane clinched the award ahead of former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
He scored 23 goals for Liverpool last season to help them win the FA Cup and EFL Cup, before he parted ways with the Reds in the ongoing transfer window.
At the international level, Mane inspired Senegal to win the Africa Cup of Nations in February. He scored the winning spot-kick as his nation defeated Salah’s Egypt on penalties in the final.
In what may be considered a warm-up to his eventual CAF triumph, Mane scored one goal and secured an assist as Bayern Munich recorded a 6-2 win in a pre-season game against DC United on Thursday morning.
