A Nigerian man living in the United Kingdom, UK has revealed that he is facing deportation after his wife filed for divorce and cancelled his visa.

The man, in a statement Blackbox Nigeria came across, explained that this development came after he shockingly discovered his wife’s affair with another man and her plans to marry him.

He said he then received a letter from the Home Office informing him that his permission to stay in the UK as a partner had been cancelled and that he had to leave the country by 23 October 2023 or find another employer who could sponsor him.

He therefore expressed that he was in a serious dilemma as he asked for help to find a job that could offer him sponsorship.

According to the letter, he had no right of appeal or administrative review against the decision and that if he left or was outside the Common Travel Area before the deadline, his permission would end immediately and he would have to make a new application to re-enter the UK.

It stated, “You still have permission until 23 October 2023 and the current conditions of your stay will continue to apply until then. Please ensure that you comply with these conditions.

“You now have until 23 October 2023 to either leave the United Kingdom (UK) or make another application to stay here.

“You do not have a right of appeal or administrative review against the decision to cancel your permission to stay.

“If you leave, or are already outside, the Common Travel Area (the UK, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland) before 23 October 2023 your permission will end immediately, and you will have to make a new application to re-enter the UK.”

The man explained that he loved his wife and trusted her until he found out about her affair.

Having confronted her and she admitted that she wanted to end their marriage and marry the other man.

She then filed for divorce and notified the Home Office of their separation, which triggered the cancellation of his visa.

He said he felt betrayed and heartbroken by his wife’s actions and appealed to the Nigerian community in the UK to assist him in finding a job that could save him from deportation.

According to the UK immigration rules, a person applying as a partner must prove that they are in a civil partnership or marriage that is recognised in the UK, that they have been living together in a relationship for at least two years, or that they are engaged and will marry within six months of arriving in the UK.

They must also prove that they have a good knowledge of English and can financially support themselves and their dependants.

The rules also state that any previous marriage or civil partnership or durable relationship of the applicant or their partner with another person must have permanently broken down unless there are exceptional circumstances.

The applicant and their partner must not be so closely related that they would be prohibited from marrying or entering into a civil partnership with each other.
