Lagos State House of Assembly to Screen Second Batch of Nominees: Abayomi, Omotosho Among Recurring Names

The Lagos State House of Assembly is set to commence the screening of a second batch of nominees sent by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday.

This move comes after the recent screening and confirmation of 22 nominees by the House.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, emphasized the importance of a thorough screening process.

He called upon the screening committee, led by Hon. Fatai Mojeed, to carry out their responsibilities diligently and present their report to the House by Thursday.

Before the Speaker’s statement, Barrister Olalekan Onafeko, the Clerk of the House, read a letter from Governor Sanwo-Olu, listing the names of the nominees.

In the letter, the governor acknowledged that some of the names were represented from the previous list, while new names had been added.

Titled ‘Forwarding of Official List of Nominees for Appointment as Commissioners and Special Advisers,’ the letter commended the Speaker and House members for their dedication to the screening process.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, “Your rigorous assessment of these nominees in adherence to your constitutional obligations demonstrates your dedication to ensuring a competent and effective council.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his confidence in the new nominees, stating that their diverse backgrounds and broad political spectrum would bring fresh ideas to help the growth and progress of Lagos.

The governor urged the House to conduct a thorough screening of the nominees for clearance.

In related news, the House of Assembly has resolved to review the performance of the 2023 budget in preparation for the presentation of the 2024 budget estimate by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

The House had previously approved a budget of N1.768 trillion for the year 2023.

Speaker Obasa urged the Committee for the budget review, headed by Hon. Sa’ad Olumo, to conduct a thorough review and present their report to the House.
