The 19th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), held on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Ikeja, Lagos, witnessed the recognition of the film industry’s most promising talents. Hosted by Nancy Isime, Rahama Sadau, and Richard Ato Turkson, the prestigious event celebrated excellence in African cinema, uniting filmmakers from around the world.

AMAA has always been a platform to acknowledge outstanding actors and actresses in the film industry, and this year was no different. Among the many talented nominees, Maleek Sanni from the iconic IkoroduBois, known for their remarkable comedy and mimicry, stood out. Maleek’s debut in the movie “Gangs of Lagos” saw him portray the character of Oba Lola, who later evolved into Tobi Bakare. His exceptional performance earned him the AMAA’s Young/Promising Actor award, surpassing five other strong contenders.

During the event, Tobi Bakare, representing Maleek Sanni, shared his appreciation by saying, “I want to express our gratitude to the entire Gangs of Lagos team, the IkoroduBois, and offer some advice to all the young dreamers out there: if you can dream it, you can achieve it. Hard work carries immeasurable value. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to AMAA for this prestigious award.”
