By It appears the 2023 general elections will witness a number of Nigerian entertainers dabble into the murky waters of politics, with the recent trend of the gubernatorial candidates of political parties selecting actors as their running mates.
Popular Nollywood actor, Femi Branch has been picked as the running mate to the governorship candidate of the National Rescue Misson (NRM) in Ogun State, Dr. Tofunmi Ogunrobi.
The actor confirmed the development in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Saturday.
In the statement issued by the Dr. Tofunmi Ogunrobi Campaign Organisation (TOCO), the NRM flagbearer said he chose Branch because the actor would add value to his candidacy, considering the latter’s vocal stance against bad governance and social injustice.

This development makes Branch the third movie star to be selected as the deputy governorship candidate of a political party.
It would be recalled that on June 24, controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh was announced as the running mate to the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Tonte Ibraye, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Weeks later, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Olajide Adediran popularly known as ‘Jandor’ also named Ikorodu-born actress, Funke Akindele as his running mate, in a largely predicted move.
