LASU Sickle Cell Society to hold sensitization walk in September

The LASU Sickle Cell Society, an advocacy group in the Lagos State University, is set to hold a walk-a-thon to sensitise people within and outside the institution on the sickle cell disorder.

According to the group, the goal of the walk-a-thon is to create awareness about the hematological disorder which a large number of people do not possess substantial knowledge about, and also to emphasize the importance of the hemoglobin phenotype test.

The event will also commemorate the annual World Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

The walk-a-thon, themed “Shining the light on SCD”, is billed to hold on September 14 at the LASU main campus in the Ojo area of Lagos.

Founded in 2021 by Durodola Ayomide, a
student of the Lagos State University College of Medicine, the LASU Sickle Cell Society aims to create awareness about the sickle cell disease in LASU, eradicate the stigmatisation of warriors in LASU, and help reduce the number of people living with the disease by helping them know their hemoglobin genotypes.
