LASU doles out cash gifts, tuition rebate to athletes who represented varsity at international competition

The management of the Lagos State University has honoured athletes who represented the institution at the just concluded 10th All Africa University Games.

The competition took place from June 6 to June 10 at the Kenyatta University, Nairobi Kenya. LASU took part in table tennis, badminton and karate with 10 athletes and 2 officials — winning one gold medal, 4 silver and 5 bronze.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, alongside other principal officers of the varsity, hosted the medal-winning team at her office, on Monday.

In appreciation of their feat, Olatunji-Bello, on behalf of the management, announced school fee full tuition rebate for gold medallist, 75% for silver and 50% for bronze winners.

She also doled additional cash gifts for the victorious team — the sum of N50,000 for each goal medal, silver N30,000 and N20,000 for bronze.

“This reward is to appreciate you and encourage other athletes, to do more. Thank you very much,” Olatunji-Bello said.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Wahab Elias commended the LASU Vice Chancellor for sending the athletes to the games, in spite of the global meltdown.
