Lagos State University (LASU) has recorded another major milestone after receiving a ₦25 million award from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for outstanding performance in the 2025 admission process.

The award was presented on Monday during the 2026 JAMB Policy Meeting held in Abuja under the National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M Awards).

BlackBox Nigeria earlier reported that the institution was ranked above other contenders according to JAMB for the second consecutive time.

LASU emerged as the Second Runner-Up Institution in the overall category of the prestigious award, earning an aggregate score of three points across the five assessment criteria of the Mega Award category in the sixth edition of the exercise.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, presented the award to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello.

The latest recognition comes barely hours after LASU was announced as Nigeria’s most preferred university for the 2026 admission exercise.

Statistics released at the policy meeting showed that 84,326 candidates selected the university as their first-choice institution in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), placing it ahead of other universities across the country for the second consecutive year.

Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor described the twin achievements as a reflection of the institution’s commitment to excellence, innovation, transparency, and student-centred administration.

She noted that the university’s steady rise in national rankings and admission preference underscores growing public confidence in LASU’s academic standards and learning environment.

The NATAP-M Awards recognise tertiary institutions that demonstrate transparency, efficiency, and merit-based practices in the admission process.
