Lagos State Sports Commission Board Members Tour Ikorodu Division To Audit Sporting Facilities, Commend Governor Sanwo-Olu

The Board Members of the Lagos State Sports Commission in line with the THEMES agenda of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu visited Ikorodu Division to inspect sporting facilities within the Division.

The Members who were on call to audit sporting facilities across Lagos State visited the Ita-Elewa Mini Stadium being facilitated by Representative Babajimi Benson (MHR), which encompasses a 5-aside football pitch, a 3-in1 outdoor game section, players changing room, sick at and other indoor activity halls.

Speaking during the tour, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan who is a member of the Board representing Ikorodu Division commended the Lagos state Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu on his mission to improve and sustain sporting activities across the state to State-of-the-art facilities.

Dr Abiodun said the Governor is keen on discovering new talents in various sporting activities within the State and encourage the Local Government Chairmen across the state to collaborate with the State Government by institutionalizing sporting activities that will develop Youths positively to be useful to themselves, the LG and the State through participation in the various sports within their reach.

While visiting Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Stadium site already approved by the State Government to commence construction, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan said, “it is a good development that Igbogbo-Baiyeku has a stadium in the heart of her community, which the propensity to reduce the level of cultism, social vices amongst other unhealthy youthful activity within the community.”

He noted that the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Stadium is big enough to accommodate Beach Sand Soccer and other sporting activities.

As part of the efforts of the audit, the dilapidated mini-stadium at the Ipakan community in Ijede LCDA was also visited.

The facility manager of the stadium indicated that a major problem faced by the stadium is usage due to the state of insecurity of the space, unavailability of officials amongst others.

The representative of Ijede LCDA Chairman, S. G. Quadri and the Baale of Ipakin community who were both on hand to tour with the Board members were challenged to ensure clearing of the weeds within and outside the Facility to give it a meaningful look before proper commencement of work could take place.

Ikorodu North LCDA, Ikorodu West LCDA and Imota LCDA are other Areas in Ikorodu Division that have lands for siting stadiums that is believed will encourage growth and development of youth and eliminate social vices in the society.

The Team of the Lagos Sports Commission Board on tour to Ikorodu Division was led by Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan (Ikorodu Division), Lanre Saheed (Badagry Division), Shina Ogundimu (Lagos Island Division), Bose Kaffo (Ikeja Division), Lanre Olowu (Epe Division), Mrs Olufunke Olu-Young (Representative of Ministry of Education), Biola Lawal (Chairman Sports Association), Damilare Orimoloye (Youth Representative), Bolaji Pearce (Board secretary), and Kayode Mobee (Director Sports facility).
