Lagos orders closure of Chrisland Schools over students’ explicit act

As reactions continue to trail the suspension of a 10-year-old female pupil of Chrisland School for involving in a sexual act with her male counterparts during a trip abroad, the Lagos State Government has shut down all branches of the elite school in the state indefinitely.

It was gathered that the decision was to allow proper investigation on the allegations brought against the pupil and her colleagues as well as other circumstances surrounding the sexual conduct perpetrated during the excursion.

A statement on Monday from the government reads in part, “The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to the alleged sexual violence case involving students of Chrisland school.”

“It is pertinent to note that all allegations are being investigated by the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Ministry of Education, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Justice and the Lagos State Domestic & Sexual Violence Agency, whilst the criminal allegations have been escalated to the Commissioner of Police.”

The government also warned those in possession or circulating the sex tape to desist from such acts or be ready to spend 14 years in jail as prescribed by the law.

“In the meantime, all Chrisland schools within Lagos are hereby closed, pending further investigations,” it continued.

BlackBox Nigeria had reported that the school suspended the unnamed female pupil after accusing her of taking part in a truth-or-dare game in Dubai. She is said to be one of the pupils who represented the school at the World School Games held between March 10-13, 2022.

According to the school, the girl was a “major participant” in the whole incident, adding that other schoolmates who took part in the game had also been suspended.

“A full scale investigation has been done and the parents of all the culpable learners have been duly notified with the necessary punishment meted out on the learners. The parents gave their full cooperation realizing the need to work with the school so that the learners can be corrected and be of expected proper behaviour henceforth,” Chrisland School stated in a letter addressed to the girl’s parents.
