Lagos NYCN PRO, Abiodun Ajayi emerges ONE Champion in Nigeria

The Public Relations Officer of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Lagos State, Amb. Abiodun Ajayi, popularly known as Mandate has been selected as one of Nigeria’s 60 ONE Champions.

ONE was co-founded by Bono and other campaigners as a non-partisan global movement. ONE, a global activist program, is currently in 13 countries with over 1000 volunteers globally. It was first launched in Nigeria in 2016 and have trained 400 Champions since 2016. The ONE Campaign is a one-year fellowship.

ONE is a global movement working to abolish extreme poverty and preventable disease by 2030, allowing everyone, everywhere, to live a life of dignity and opportunity. They believe that fighting poverty is about justice and equality, not charity.

The international organization encourages governments to do more to combat extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, while also empowering citizens to hold governments accountable.

Amb. Abiodun Ajayi was selected for his years of proactive involvement and significance in the development space in Lagos and Nigeria at large, through the provision of selfless service to humanity and developing emerging youth leaders across the country and beyond. He emerged out of 1,800 applicants across the federation.

Following the selection, 60 ONE Champions were drawn from the 36 states in Nigeria. These individuals were trained and inducted in Abuja. Successful champions were presented Certificate of Appointment at the training.

In the words of Ajayi: “The 2-day training was an intense and eye-opening session for the selected champions. The experience of learning from Alumni of ONE Champions was a big challenge for them to think big. Myself and other ambassadors were given the opportunities to pitch ideas to eradicate extreme poverty, unemployment and vote apathy in Nigeria.”

The Lagos NYCN PRO further appreciated the ONE team for his selection and for providing such huge and impactful training, while promising to be committed to sustaining the goals of the organization.

Ajayi’s ambassadorial position with ONE is coming after his initiative, “Young Leaders Hub” emerged second in the GAIA Goalkeeper Prize Award organized by World Merit, behind Natal Care Organization. The contest for the best organization cut across countries in Africa and Asia.
