Lagos East Bye-Election: Lagos PDP Fights Over Alleged 60 Million Campaign Funds Donated By Obaseki

Crisis has emerged within the Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, following the conclusion of the Saturday’s Lagos East senatorial bye-election which was won by Tokunbo Abiru of the All Progressives Congress.

BlackBox Nigeria learnt from a reliable source in the PDP that its leadership has been accused of diverting campaign funds meant for the election.

It was alleged that the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki gave the sum of N60 million to the party for the Lagos East senatorial bye-election. However, N30 million was declared while the remaining N30 million found its way into private pockets of some members. Also, the source said a number of aspirants under the PDP are using the party’s name to do business, saying they connive with the APC.

“A candidate will spend enough money during primary election in order for him to get the party ticket and at the end of the day he/she spend less during the general election, meet with opposition party (both him and his team or our so-called leaders) to negotiate with them.”

The source added the party executives at the state, local and ward levels are members of the APC hiding under the umbrella of the PDP.

Recall INEC had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Tokunbo Abiru as the winner of the Lagos East senatorial bye-election after polling 89,204 votes. His closest rival, Babatunde Gbadamosi of the Peoples Democratic Party scored 11,251 votes.
