Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for the 2027 general elections.
Obasa made the declaration on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Agege, Lagos, where he said party leaders and political stakeholders in the area had urged him to seek the federal legislative position.
The Speaker, who had been in the state legislative house for two decades and three years said moving to the green chamber is a continuation of his legislative duties. He served as speaker of the House for 10 years during his years of service. He also used the occasion to rally support for other APC aspirants within the constituency.
He endorsed former Chairman of Agege Local Government Council, Ganiyu Egunjobi, for the Agege Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
He equally backed Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo for the Agege Constituency II seat.
Political observers say Obasa’s entry into the race is likely to intensify political activities in Agege and surrounding communities as aspirants continue consultations and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the APC primaries.
Supporters and loyalists across Agege and Orile-Agege have reportedly stepped up efforts to mobilise delegates and strengthen support bases as the battle for party tickets gathers momentum.
Meanwhile, APC members in Lagos State are awaiting the outcome of the ongoing screening exercise being conducted by the party’s state and national leadership ahead of the primaries.
