In a poignant response to the tragic events of December 3, 2023, the residents of Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have taken legal action against the Federal Government.

According to PUNCH, through their representative, Dalhatu Salihu, and legal counsel Mukhtar Usman, a lawsuit was filed on December 8, 2023, at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

The villagers demanded a compensation of N33 billion for the loss of more than 100 lives resulting from the aerial bombardment during the Islamic Maulud celebration.

They argued that the aerial bombardment violated the victims’ right to life, as outlined in Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Article 10(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (Ratification Enforcement) Act (Cap 10) LFN 2010.

The lawsuit, aimed at upholding the fundamental rights of the survivors, therefore sought an apology to be published in at least three national newspapers.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the villagers await justice for the untimely loss of their kinsmen, emphasizing the need for accountability in this grave matter.

The date for the hearing is yet to be determined.
