Danish police have declared Nigerian footballer Akinkunmi Amoo internationally wanted after he allegedly failed to report to serve a one-year prison sentence imposed following his conviction for rape and sexual assault in Denmark.
According to Danish authorities, the 24-year-old former FC Copenhagen winger has been detained in absentia, with police and prosecutors now working to secure his extradition to Denmark to enforce the court’s sentence.
Authorities believe Amoo is currently outside Denmark.
Amoo was convicted in 2023 over offences involving multiple women during his time with Danish Superliga club FC Copenhagen.
In addition to the one-year jail term, the court ordered his deportation from Denmark and imposed a six-year ban on re-entering the country.
His appeal against the conviction was dismissed in 2024, leaving the sentence in force.
Reports indicate that after leaving FC Copenhagen, Amoo joined Cypriot side Omonia before moving to China in February 2025, where he played for two clubs.
He has reportedly been without a club since January 2026, and Danish police say his current whereabouts remain unknown.
Before his legal troubles, Amoo was regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest football prospects.
The Ibadan-born winger starred for Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup and earned widespread praise for his performances with Swedish club Hammarby, which led to a high-profile move to FC Copenhagen in 2022.
