The two are co-chairs and trustees of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which launched in 2000.
This development comes two years after Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, said he and his wife, MacKenzie, were getting divorced.
Bill Gates, one of the world’s richest people, currently owns 1.37% of Microsoft’s outstanding shares, which are worth more than $26 billion, according to FactSet. The financial implication of this breakup is, however, yet to be estimated.
