Just In! EFCC Detains Ex-SGF, Babachir Lawal
News reaching BlackBox Nigeria confirms the detention of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachir Lawal by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Though, BBN can not confirm the reason behind the detention of the former SGF by the anti-graft agency, but it may not be unconnected with his involvement of the N300m grass cutting scam that rocked the Presidential Initiative for North East (PINE).
It will be recalled that the Senate in it’s investigation discovered that one of the company that was contracted to carry out a project of ‘cutting grass’ in camps housing some of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) failed to execute the project and was later connected to Lawal. Findings however discovered that the former SGF was one of the Directors and signatory to the company’s account.
Following allegations of his involvement in the contract, a comprehensive investigation was carried out by a panel led by Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN. After the panel submitted it’s report to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lawal was immediately relieved of his position and was replaced by Boss Mustapha.
As at the time of filing this report, a source in Abuja disclosed to BBN that Lawal has been detained by operatives of the EFCC.
