In a remarkable display of cultural support, His Royal Highness, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, has officially endorsed the stage play “The Heroism of Erelú Ota (The Return)” and calls for credible partners to back this initiative.

This endorsement comes following a courtesy visit by DBard Creative Media, the organizers of “The Heroism of Erelú Ota,” to the palace of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu. The project’s initiator, Waliu Adeyeri, and his team expressed their gratitude to His Highness for his support during the debut performance of the play on May 1, 2023. They also shared their plans to re-stage the play during the 32nd Ikorodu Oga Festival.

His Royal Highness, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, “The Heroism of Erelú Ota (The Return)” with the Project Initiator, Waliu Adeyeri

Waliu Adeyeri explained, “I and my team have come to pay homage to Your Majesty for the royal support we enjoyed during our first performance of the play, ‘The Heroism of Erelú Ota,’ on May 1, 2023. We have come to officially communicate that we have been confirmed to re-stage the play on Thursday, November 16, 2023, as part of the activities lined up for this year’s edition of the Ikorodu Oga Festival.”

He continued, “Also, we have come to seek your royal identification and endorsement of this project. Knowing that Your Highness has a penchant for supporting initiatives that seek to promote our cultural and historical heritages, we believe that your involvement with this project will give it more credibility and acceptability.”

The Ayangbure of Ikorodu appreciated the project’s initiator and encouraged him and his team to remain committed. He stated, “Incontrovertibly, our kingdom has over the years received low to no recognition in several areas, especially our culture and tourism. My cabinet had taken some bold steps to gather information about our historical heritage, document it, and present it to the state government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture. This stage play, ‘The Heroism of Erelú Ota,’ is a testament to the fact that we have myriads of untold stories that the world needs to know, and I will support you.”

He added, “We cannot remain reticent to the heroic exploits of our legends; hence, the need to endorse and support initiatives like this and advocate support for their wide projection. Awon Alale ilu wa a gbeyin” (Our town’s heroes will be celebrated).

During the visit, the crew made a short, thrilling presentation of His Majesty’s eulogy while presenting the official cap of the event as the first guest and royal father at the performance scheduled for November 16th, 2023.

The event will take place on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Olutusen Main Hall, Ikorodu Ultra-modern Town Hall, Owolowo, Ikorodu, Lagos. Admission is strictly by the official-branded face cap, available for N3,000.
