By A former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima has insisted that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu remains the best man to clinch the party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 polls.
Shettima, who heads the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Support Groups, made this known on Friday while featuring on ‘Journalists Hangout’, a programme on TVC.
He argued that it will be catastrophic for the APC to field anyone politician other than the former Lagos governor as its presidential flagbearer.
“We are in a democratic situation but I’m afraid it might be catastrophic for the party. I’m not a prophet of doom; I’m an internal optimist. We have done our own bidding and by God’s grace, our candidate will emerge as the presidential flagbearer of the APC in the next 72 hours,” Shettima said.
The former governor also claimed that if President Muhammadu Buhari decides to endorse any of the presidential hopefuls under the APC, such person will be Tinubu.
He said, “With all sense of seriousness, if the president is going to anoint anyone is going to be Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Yes, I’m very sure. Forget about all the noise, the President respects Asiwaju so much.”
It would be recalled that Buhari’s appeal to APC governors to allow him choose his successor has sparked mixed reactions, leaving many to wonder the President indeed has a preferred candidate, as the party heads to its presidential primaries next week.
