I remain APC candidate for Eti-Osa Reps seat, Elegushi’s brother insists

Oyekanmi Elegushi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State, has vowed not to step down for anyone.

BlackBox Nigeria had reported that party leaders was said to have prevailed on Elegushi to relinquish the ticket to the incumbent, Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro who is seeking a second term as federal lawmaker.

At the APC primary held in May, Oyekanmi — the younger brother of top Lagos monarch, the Elegushi of Ikate Land — emerged winner after polling 25 votes to defeat Obanikoro who secured 23 votes. However, he was reportedly instructed to withdraw to back Obanikoro’s candidacy.

Moments after the news broke out, supporters of the lawyer kicked against the move, insisting that Elegushi must not step down. Some of the aggrieved supporters also staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday to express their displeasure with the decision of the party.

Also reacting, Oyekanmi took to his Twitter page to clear the air over the withdrawal talks, saying he remains the APC candidate for Eti-Osa Reps seat.

“Let it be on record here that I OYEKANMI ELEGUSHI will not be withdrawing as the APC HOUSE OF REP CANDIDATE elect for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency.

“I stand by the result of the Election conducted by Delegates of our LGA in the presence of INEC Representatives & Party Leaders,” he wrote.
