Eti-Osa Reps seat: Elegushi’s brother relinquishes APC ticket to Obanikoro’s son

In a rather interesting twist of events, the All Progressives Congress candidate in Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State for the 2023 election, Oyekanmi Elegushi has reportedly relinquished the party’s ticket to the incumbent, Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro.

Oyekanmi is the immediate past Secretary/Legal Adviser of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and the younger brother of top Lagos monarch, the Elegushi of Ikate Land, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi.

BlackBox Nigeria had reported that the lawyer won the APC Reps ticket in Eti-Osa after polling 25 votes to defeat the incumbent, Obanikoro who secured 23 votes in the hotly-contested primary.

Oyekanmi’s decision to relinquish the ticket was said to have been influenced by the APC leadership who told him to allow Obanikoro actualize his second term bid. This move is presumed to be part of efforts to appease his father, a former Minister and Senator, Musiliu Obanikoro who lost the APC primary in Lagos West Senatorial District.

Meanwhile, the younger Obanikoro would be squaring up against his longtime rival, Nigerian musician-turned-politician, Bankole Wellington better known as Banky W who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In the 2019 elections, the singer contested for the Eti-Osa Reps seat under the platform of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) but lost to Obanikoro.
