2014 Champions, Eko Boys High School, Mushin began their campaign on a winning note on Thursday as they defeated Whitesand School, Lekki 3 – 1 at CMS grammar school, Bariga.
The giants of Mushin as they are fondly called defeated the same opponent 3 – 0 in the second round of the 2018 GTB Master’s Cup and a revenge was always in the card for the Island boys.
Team captain, Ishola Basit led by example by drawing first blood in the game with a smoothly executed outside shot from about 24 yards out to put the Reverend Euba boys in front.
To the surprise of all spectators, the Island boys began to enjoy possession of the ball and began to cause Eko Boys all sort of troubles.
They would have have gone into the break as equals if not for a breathtaking safe by goal keeper Igbina Abraham.
The fans didn’t have to wait for ever to get the much awaited goal as the boys from Lekki got their equalizer from a simple tap emanating from a well crafted team effort.
A School boy error from Whitesand’s goal keeper gave Obasanya Gabriel the privilege to enter the score sheet and Eko Boys gaining the edge.
Just when they thought they had seen it all, the fan. Super – sub Ibikunle Habeeb curled in a low shot just outside the 18 yard box to bury every hope of a comeback for the Islander.
The win could only send Eko Boys to second place as Methodist Boys high school, Victoria Island cemented their leadership of the group D with a 5 – 0 whitewash of Master’s Cup new comers, Livingspring high grade, Ilasamaja.
