By After a week full of activities, the eighth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) was held on Saturday night at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The organisers revived the annual event after the hiatus in 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Described as one of the most prestigious award ceremony in the whole of Africa, this year’s AMVCA was hosted by IK Osakioduwa, who returned for the eighth time as host of the show alongside South Africa’s Bonang Matheba.
Singer Rema and legendary Lagbaja thrilled the audience with their joint performance, while the ‘Koko Master’ D’Banj performed at the end of the award ceremony.
Sponsored by Amstel Malta, this year’s edition of the AMVCA allowed viewers to decide a total of 12 categories via voting. At the same time, the awards panel headed by seasoned filmmaker, Victor Okhai, selected the other 21 categories.
The biggest winners of the night were the movies ‘Amina’ and ‘Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story’. Nollywood favourites, Funke Akindele-Bello, Osas Ighodaro, Ramsey Nouah, Odunlade Adekola, among others went home with plaques after winning the categories they were nominated in.
