Former Senate President, David Mark Donates 3,000 Capacity Church To Constituents

 

The former Senate President, Senator David Mark on Thursday delivered a church building to his Constituents in Oturkpo, Oturkpo Local Government Area of Benue State. He is one of the longest serving lawmaker having being first elected in 1999.

It was gathered that the church, a 3,000 seat capacity was donated and built for St Augustine Catholic Church. It will be formally dedicated on Saturday, January 13th.

According to the statement signed by the lawmaker’s spokesperson, Paul Mumeh, scores of clergymen including the Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Bishop of Oturkpo, Bishop Micheal Apochi among others will be present at the dedication ceremony.

Senator Mark’s donation is coming at a time Benue State is grieving over the gruesome killings by Fulani herdsmen. The church was also donated same day a mass burial was held in Makurdi for the victims of the New Year killings.

Also, the donation comes at a time Senator Mark, a ranking lawmaker in the 8th Senate is undergoing a corruption investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti graft agency alleged that Mark mismanaged government funds during his tenure as Senate President (2007-2015) and also acquired a public property without following due process. The same property also has him being probed by the Presidential Committee on the recovery of stolen government property.

He has since denied all the allegations and has vowed to exonerate himself before a competent Law Court.
