Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed that it is awaiting outstanding funds owed by FIFA, the international governing body for football, intended for the players of the renowned Super Falcons team.

The NFF highlighted that each member of the Super Falcons’ squad is entitled to a payment of $60,000 in recognition of their advancement to the second round of the Women’s World Cup, a global event that recently concluded in Australia and New Zealand.

The Women’s World Cup, which concluded on August 20th in Sydney, witnessed Spain clinching victory as they emerged as champions by defeating England with a single decisive goal.

In an attempt to address the matter regarding the Super Falcons’ earnings from their impressive performance in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Ademola Olajire, the Director of Media at the NFF, clarified that the federation had already fulfilled its commitments by settling the players’ match bonuses and allowances.

Olajire further elaborated that the players would receive their rightful payments once FIFA released the allocated funds.

Similarly, South Africa’s national women’s football team, Banyana Banyana, which also managed to secure a spot in the round of 16 during the Women’s World Cup, is currently in a similar predicament.

They too are awaiting their payments from FIFA.

Mandisa Monyepao, a representative from the South African Football Association (SAFA), explained the situation, stating that FIFA’s engagement is primarily with the member associations, not directly with the players.

She clarified that FIFA provides the funds to the associations, which then handle the distribution process.
