Federal Government Increases 2024 Hajj pilgrimage fare

The Federal Government, through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has announced an increment in the 2024 Hajj fare to N6.6 million due to foreign exchange fluctuations.
This adjustment includes an additional sum of over N1,918,032.91 million as the final balance for this year’s pilgrimage to the holy nation by the deadline of 11:59 pm on March 28, 2024, as compared to last year fare.
Meanwhile, applicants who have already been captured by NAHCON will be required to pay the increased fare, while new applicants will pay over N8 million for the Hajj journey.
The Assistant Director of Public Affairs at NAHCON, Fatima Usara, stated in a released statement on Sunday that the upward review of the fee was necessitated by foreign exchange challenges.
She further explained that new registrations for the 2024 Hajj made after March 24th will attract the full fare of N8 million.
“While the Commission regrets the short notice, it has become inevitable due to Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s stern warning to Nigeria regarding the delay in adhering to the Hajj arrangement framework. Before now, NAHCON had pleaded for an extension which had been reluctantly granted and now the Ministry’s patience is wearing thin”, part of the statement reads.
Usara emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah had issued a stern warning to Nigeria regarding delays in adhering to the Hajj arrangement framework.
However, Intending pilgrims who wish to withdraw their registration for the 2024 Hajj are advised to formally request a refund from their respective states.
