With the deadline for the validity of old naira notes drawing closer, the family of a bride-to-be in Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State has rejected the bride price given to them by the suitor’s family.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the family rejected the bride price as it contained the old N1,000 and N500 notes claiming that they did not have anywhere to change it as they did not have a bank account and were not ready to get the things for the ceremony yet.
The groom’s family were given the money and told to bring it back when they had the new naira notes.
The groom’s family was said to have returned the money to the bank while waiting for the bank to dispense new naira notes.
Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had directed the use and circulation of the old naira note to seize from January 31 and enjoined Nigerians to deposit their old naira notes in the bank before the stipulated deadline.
