The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Adamu Yahaya Jiyaba, a fake Director of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Jiyaba was arraigned before Justice N.I. Afolabi of the Federal High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on a one-count charge bordering on cybercrime. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The EFCC confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Jiyaba attempted to falsify identity by inputting data that he was Robert S. Muller, the FBI Director.
“That you, Adamu Yayaha Jiyaba, sometime in 2022 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court attempted to commit an offence to input a data that you are Robert S. Muller, the FBI Director, with the intention that such inauthentic data will be considered or acted upon and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 13 of the Cybercrime (Provision, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Section of the Act,” the charge reads.
After pleading guilty to the charge, the suspect was remanded in the Lafia Correctional Centre, while the case was adjourned the case till October 26 and 27 for commencement of trial.
